Sewing machine needles. More to them than I thought.

For a long time the first inventors working on a sewing machines were trying to copy the action of sewing with a hand needle. That is a needle with the eye at the top. Effectively pulling the thread through the cloth. The big change came when the eye was moved to the point and the thread was pushed into the fabric.

For me, the history and the mechanics of sewing needles is a hobby on its own.
